Due to the recent Government announcement on Friday, we have taken the decision to close until further notice. We feel this decision is in the best interest of both our customers and staff. We hope you all stay well and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
We were pleased to open our doors early on a Sunday morning in March to accommodate a group of runners to whom we served breakfast.
The event was a great success and they thanked us on the day verbally and then sent a follow-up email as follows:
“I just wanted to write and say thank you for accommodating our group for breakfast this morning, we all really enjoyed it and the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much for them, it was fantastic just what we needed after our run. I hope we can come again? “
It was also our pleasure to cater for them and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.
Note that very early breakfast for groups and clubs such as runners, bikers and walkers also family gatherings may be booked in advance subject to a few days’ notice and staff availability.
The glorious sunshine on Saturday and Sunday gave rise to crowds of visitors at the Priory Country Park. Our Park Rangers said that the foot fall was record breaking for this time of the year and this was reflected in the number of Retreat customers.
We have now been open for 3 years and take this opportunity to thank our customers for their continued custom. It has been great to see the numbers increasing as time goes by. We regard many of you as ‘Friends of the Retreat’ and look forward to seeing you appear on a regular basis.
Some weeks ago we were pleased to be approached by the John Bunyan Boat organisers to cater for some of their river cruises. For those of you who do not know, the boat is run by volunteers and raises funds toward expanding and protecting the river locally through the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Trust.
Our first event was on Easter Sunday. The boat, which is based at the Priory Marina, did a 2 hour round trip from the Marina and ‘Tea for Two’ was served to a number of couples on board.
We at the Cloverdale Retreat, are disturbed by the issue of plastic pollution. As a result, we discontinued purchasing plastic disposables last year. The remaining stock in hand (mostly food containers), will be gradually phased out being replaced by compostable substitutes. You may have already noticed the introduction of alternative disposable cups. We hope you will bear with us during this transition, as the substitute cups have less insulation against the heat.
We realise that our contribution to tackling this world-wide issue is very small but feel that we all should do what we can to alleviate the problem.
On 8th December the local Sustrans have organised a ‘Santa Scoot’. Buggies, walkers and scooters will be welcome to take part (No bikes on this occasion however).
The Cloverdale Retreat Coffee Shop are pleased to support this charity event by providing some refreshments at the end of the event.
Below is a recent customer review for the Retreat. The person was positive about every single aspect!
“A lovely cafe , next to the lake. Natural light is abundant , thanks to a large window which extends down one side of the cafe. It’s great to know too that they use solar power, generated from roof panels as well as collecting and using rainwater.
It’s a perfect way to start or end a walk , or just to visit for refreshments. There’s plenty of fee parking , and in the same building, accessed separately are modern clean toilets. The staff are young enthusiastic and helpful . There is a selection of hot foods, and specials of the day to choose from as well as a tempting range of cakes. Service is good; coffee is excellent. The cafe is clutter free and there is plenty of space between tables which is helpful. There is also a large outdoor seating area with views across the lake”
The Poppy Walk for honour in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal was held again in the Park on Sunday 12th August and featured live music.
We were glad to support them with an electricity supply and collection box as in previous years.
The Park hosted the Race for Life events again this year which are in aid of Cancer Research UK. This was on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July and attracted huge crowds. We opened earlier on those days.
